Ghana recovers millions from illegal power connections

ACCRA, (CAJ News) – THE Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has recovered GH₵23 million (US$5,2 million) from illegal connections over the past year.
The power utility is clamping down on clients illegally connecting their facilities to the national power grid.
ECG Acting Managing Director, Samuel Boakye-Appiah, disclosed the figures at the Accra International Conference Centre in the capital city.
“Application of knowledge is fundamental to system reliability and operational efficiency,” he said in a media briefing.
Boakye-Appiah said the recovery was made possible by the introduction of Revenue Protection Programme launched in 2016.
Meanwhile, company engineers announced the replacement of obsolete equipment which was exceeding its lifespan of the 35 years.
These have been replaced in Accra and Tema.
