ABUJA – THE Nigerian Army has arrested 1 400 civilians during
post-festive season operations to rid the country of the Boko Haram sect.
Troops of the Operation Lafiya Dole made the arrest between December 28 and Wednesday.
The operations were conducted around the Sambisa Forest in Borno State, the state most affected by the terror.
Major General Leo Irabor, Theatre Commander of Operation Lafiya Dole, said operations in Sambisa Forest and environ were continuing.
“Our troops are conducting various exploitation and mop-up operations against fleeing BHTs,” said Irabor.
The Nigerian Army has in recent months made breakthroughs against the Islamic militant sect wrecking havoc in the northeast and neighbouring countries.
