From EMEKA OKONKWO in Abuja, Nigeria
ABUJA, (CAJ News) – THE Nigerian Defence has established a panel to probe the recent deadly clash between Navy and Police east of the country.
Two police and a navy officer died during the skirmishes in Calabar, Cross River State during the commotion and a police station burnt.
A committee comprising senior officers from the Army, Navy, Airforce and Police has been set up to investigate.
Major General John Enche, the Director of Defence Information, said the committee is mandated to recommend appropriate sanction (s) to individuals or groups found culpable in the avoidable incident.
“This is aimed at checkmating and subsequently eliminating such incidents in the future, in order to enhance the relationship between the Military and other Security and Response Agencies in Nigeria.”
The Defence Headquarters appealed to members of all security and response agencies to embrace mutual loyalty in the course of carrying out their duties.
