Nigerian troops kill kidnappers, rescue victims

ABUJA, (CAJ News) – THE Nigerian Army has killed two suspected kidnappers,rescued an abducted victim and arrested three alleged vandals in different operations south of the country.
Commander of Operation Delta Safe, Rear Admiral Apochi Suleiman, said troops deployed at Omuku Forest in Rivers State, acting on a tip off,
swiftly responded and engaged some suspected armed kidnappers in a gun duel.
Suleiman said the rescued victim was currently receiving treatment in a
medical facility in Port Harcourt.
Meanwhile, the operation arrested the suspected vandals in the Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.
They allegedly bombed facilities of an oil company and stealing equipment.
Elsewhere, troops raided a suspected pirate’s hideout at Elema, Rivers.
Although, no arrest was made during the raid, several items were recovered including 23 rounds of ammunition, a generating set and a speed boat engine.
Suleiman commended the general public and the press for all the support given to Operation Delta Safe in its effort to protect oil and gas
infrastructure, deter and prevent militancy, sea robbery, crude oil theft and other forms of criminality within the Niger Delta.
The oil-rich region is beset by rampant crime.
