MAIDUGURI, (CAJ News) – NINE people, comprising five suicide bombers and four civilians, have been killed after a series of suicide bomb blasts in
the restive northeast Nigeria.
At least 20 people have been injured during the attacks carried out by the suspected members of the Boko Haram terror group in three areas housing
internally displaced persons around Maiduguri.
It is the city worst hit by the eight-year long insurgency by the Islamic militant group.
The first location of the bombings on Wednesday was the Muna Kumbori, where three suicide bombers detonated their devices, killing two people.
In Muna Dagalti, a suicide bomber triggered a device killing one person.
A similar attack occurred at Muna Bulaya where there was one casualty.
All suicide bombers and civilians died on the spot.
Abdulkadir Ibrahim, zonal information officer of the National Emergency Management Agency, said all suicide bombers were adult males.
He said emergency response teams had performed first aid on the injured who have been transported to the Borno State specialist hospital.
“The remains of the dead have been deposited in the mortuary,” said Ibrahim.
The Boko Haram has over the years carried a spate of suicide bomb attacks, killing over 20 000 and displacing more than 2 million people in a violent
campaign to carve an Islamic state in Nigeria.
